Department Achievements: 1992 - 2006

  • Instituted excavation regulations and permitting process to protect our infrastructure with a performance bond requirement
  • Subcontractor qualifications for snow and ice control
  • Equipment replacement and maintenance program for all equipment under our control
  • Driveway permitting process and regulations with performance bonding requirements
  • Pavement management program
  • Over 3 million dollars in infrastructure improvements from grants and negotiated off site improvements paid for by developers. This includes the rebuilding of Route 133, Andover Street, Pentucket Pond dam rebuild and other various projects from drainage improvements to stormwater studies on the ponds
  • Recognized for superior snow and ice control in a survey done by a major newspaper. The department placed in the top 3 out of 25 area cities and town in the survey
  • Phase II stormwater mandate: first phase completed by the deadline of March 10, 2003 under budget, saving the Town $50,000 from the original estimate. This was accomplished in partnership with the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission
  • Participation in consortium purchasing programs savings thousands of tax dollars
  • Designation of low salt areas with signage to protect our drinking water supply
  • Building of a second highway garage facility, occupancy was taken September 2003.
    • Construction of the second phase of urban systems. (Downtown project) $2.4 Million dollars. (August 2004) (Completed November 2006)
    • Construction of the long awaited access road off  Tenney Street. $3.8 Million dollars. (July 2004) (Completed November 2006)
    • Upgrade of the traffic signals in the square area and related improvements. (2006)
