Officer struck by car while working road detail

Georgetown - On Tuesday, Dec. 8, Georgetown Police Officer Jay Martel was struck by a motor vehicle while working a private road detail at the intersection of East Main and Tenney streets. At approximately 8:45 a.m., while attempting to stop westbound traffic on East Main Street, Officer Martel was forced to jump out of the way of a Ford Expedition driven by Jennifer Sacco of Rowley. Officer Martel was struck by the passenger-side mirror, which was ripped off by the impact.
After striking the officer, the vehicle paused, then continued to travel west toward the square, where it was pulled over by Georgetown patrols. Sacco was placed under arrest and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injuries, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, impeded operation of a motor vehicle (cell phone), as well as an expired inspection sticker. Officer Martel sustained minor injuries, which did not require medical attention.
