Officers fill the room at lieutenant’s promotion ceremony

Georgetown -  More than a dozen Georgetown police officers, firefighters, family and friends crowded the third floor meeting room at Town Hall Monday night to witness the promotion ceremony of Police Lieutenant Donald Cudmore.
Cudmore was promoted to his new role, effective Feb. 1, as lieutenant by Police Chief James Mulligan and the promotion was approved by the Board of Selectmen
earlier this month.
At the ceremony Monday, Cudmore’s two daughters took part by removing his sergeant badge and then pining the new lieutenant badge to his uniform.
Cudmore was hired in March 1985 as a reserve officer for the town. In the nearly 25 years since, he has moved up the ranks from full time officer to sergeant in
2004 and now to lieutenant.
Mulligan thanked Cudmore for his years of loyalty, dedication and work he’s down
for the town.
“We’re lucky to have him. He’s an outstanding example of any police officer in any department. We’re blessed to have him in Georgetown,” Mulligan said.
Cudmore thanked all for attending, especially his wife and daughters. “I want to thank my family for being here and my sister and brother officers.
This wouldn’t have happened without them,” Cudmore said.

MPO Hatch also recognized
Mulligan also awarded Master Patrolman Scott Hatch a plaque for his work apprehending a suspect wanted by the state police during Monday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting.
The apprehension took place Dec. 27, 2008 and the chase began in Seabrook, N.H. “Upon hearing of the pursuit you positioned yourself in an area you believed the suspects would go to. Upon setting up in this area you observed a suspect running you chased the suspect and apprehended him turning him over to the Massachusetts State Police. Your actions are worthy of recognition. Without your keen police sense it is very likely the suspect would have escaped justice,” Mulligan said.
