Three Officers Receive Commendations
Wednesday, January 10, 2007
For their exceptional work on a Nov. 1 robbery at 27 Pillsbury St., three Georgetown Police Officers were awarded commendations with ribbons as many uniformed members of the force observed the ceremony at the Monday selectmen’s meeting.
Before presenting the ribbons, Mulligan shared sentiments from letters sent by residents in praise of several Georgetown police officers. A letter from the robbery victim said four officers responded to his 911 call in less than five minutes. The resident noted the empathy, kindness, patience and understanding demonstrated by the responding officers.
Another letter, from a domestic violence victim, had special praise for Officer Dennis Sullivan and Master Patrolman Michael Goddu, as well as other officers, for going out of their way to help him and his family.
The three commendations given Monday night were in recognition of three officers’ response to and work on the Nov. 1 burglary, which involved $15,000 in stolen jewelry, a stolen car and a stolen .22-caliber automatic weapon.
Officer James Rodden, who is also the school liaison officer, was praised for identifying a suspect and working the case for hours, tracking the suspect to Haverhill and arresting him while he was still armed with the stolen weapon, and working with the Plaistow Police Department to recover all the stolen property.
Master Patrolman Michael Goddu was awarded for his work on the case, going to Haverhill on information the suspect and stolen car were there. Encountering the suspect “and without concern for [his] personal safety,” Goddu disarmed the suspect, who was carrying the stolen weapon.
Officer Derek Jones was recognized for providing information that identified the suspect and his location, working the case for hours with Officer Rodden. Officer Jones’ work on the case helped lead police to the suspect, resulting in his arrest.
Mulligan told the selectmen he was proud of his officers.
“These gentlemen represent the finest team of law enforcement officers I have ever worked with,” said Mulligan.
