I decided to get involved in Law Enforcement because I am a fair and capable person and have always felt I could help improve the safety of the community
Who inspired you and how?
There was not one person in particular who inspired me. I have always had a desire to become a police officer and felt I would be an asset to the department and the community.
What are the greatest challenges in your field?
I find that reaching young adults to improve their lives is challenging. Trusting me and having them understand they are not alone will always be something I will continue to work towards.
What advice can you offer for someone who wants to go into public safety?
To be successful takes a lot more than just driving around and writing tickets. Being involved with the community and proactive police are a couple of the key elements.
What’s something about your line of work that most people don’t know?
I feel that many people’s perspective of Police work can sometimes be very general - street patrol and responding to calls. There is a great deal more that goes into the job, community relations, youth programs, drug and alcohol programs, community safety. There is continuing training and education.
What is a memorable moment in your career and why?
During a power outage, I was checking on an elderly man in the community. I could see he was having difficulty. I had rescue come in and access his condition, he was transported to the hospital. I was informed later that he would not have survived the night had he not gone to the hospital.
