PUBLIC SAFETY PROFILE
Officer Mark Anderson has served for several years as our Senior Relations Officer, in that capacity he has worked with the majority of senior citizens in Georgetown so that they know a police officer and hopefully they will reach out to him if they encounter any type of problem that requires the police they will feel comfortable calling GPD. I have heard nothing but great things about Officer Anderson and what he has accomplished with our Senior Citizens via programs to educate them on scams and other crimes impacting on our senior citizens.  Mark is also a member of the Georgetown Police Department award winning Honor Guard, and marched in this year’s Memorial Day Parade. Officer Anderson is an outstanding person and police officer, and truly one of Georgetown Finest.”

Name:   Mark Anderson
Age:            36
Position:       Patrolman/ Senior Relations officer
Hometown: Georgetown, MA

Explain why you decided to get involved with public safety.
I enjoy helping people, and working with the public. I really like when you know you truly helped someone it’s a wonderful feeling.
Who inspired you and how?
My friends and family encouraged me.
What are the greatest challenges in your field?
My greatest challenge for me is growing up and living in the same community I work in, it can be very difficult when you know a lot of the people in the community and they may be involved in an incident that I respond to.  No matter what the incident is I always try to treat people as I would want to be treated.
What advice can you offer for someone who wants to go into public safety?
Go to school and work hard. It is hard field to get into and with so many budget cuts it is only getting harder.
What’s something about your line of work that most people don’t know?
That police officers do care and have feelings for people, but they also have a job to do.
What is a memorable moment in your career and why?
A memorable moment for me is meeting a gentleman at Trestle way I would go and talk to him on Saturdays. We talked about current events to old stories from back when he was in the Navy  I could just tell that he looked forward to me coming every week to talk him. It was also difficult when he got sick and passed away.
