Dispatcher Lucille Manning donates artwork to police department
Georgetown —
On Friday, Aug. 20, dispatcher Lucille Manning and Purple Dragon Arts proprietor Beverly Enos surprised Georgetown Police Chief James Mulligan with the presentation of a piece of artwork made by Dispatcher Manning using bunka, a style of Japanese embroidery. Dispatcher Manning has been attending Purple Dragon Arts for six years and studying bunka under the direction of Enos.
The piece Manning created depicts a town police department during Christmas time. On Aug. 7, the National Seminar for Japanese Bunka Art was held in Concord, N.H., and Dispatcher Manning won second place in the “Original Stitchery” category for this picture. She has since decided to donate this work of art to the Georgetown Police Department.
According to Chief Mulligan, Manning’s picture will be displayed proudly in the Georgetown Police Department. However, before that happens it will be on display and entered into competition at the Topsfield Fair in October.
“On behalf of the entire department, I want to thank Dispatcher Lucille Manning for creating and sharing this beautiful work of art with the members of the police department and the public who will enjoy is once it is on display at the Georgetown Police Department,” Mulligan said.
