Letter: Chief apologizes for comments about library
Georgetown - To the editor:
(Editor’s Note: This letter was sent from Police Chief James Mulligan to Library Board of Trustees Chairman Thomas Falzareno, it is being reprinted here.)
Dear Chairman Thomas Falzareno:
I want to take this opportunity to apologize to the Board of Trustees and in particular to Library Director Ruth E. Eifert for comments in an e-mail sent by Officer Derek Jones of the Georgetown Police Department.
His comments were not authorized by the Georgetown Police Department and not in my opinion accurate. Having worked closely with you and other members of the Board of Trustees and Director Eifert I know first hand the caring and dedication the trustees and Director Eifert bring to your respective positions.
In my six years as Chief of Police in Georgetown we have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Director Eifert and I expect this will continue into the future. I can assure you that no communication regarding the library or its personnel will be sent without my direct permission. The Board of Trustees and Director Eifert will be made aware of any pending releases.
I know from my own experience the Georgetown Peabody Library is a safe place for all citizens of Georgetown to go and enjoy the assets it offers the community.
Chief James E. Mulligan
Georgetown Police Department
