Drugs and Alcohol

Q. My son/daughter is under 21 yrs old, he/she is at a house party where alcohol is being served, can he/she be arrested?

A. Yes, anyone under the age of 21 found at a house party is subject to arrest whether or not they have been drinking.   The same goes for in a car.  If there is alcohol in a car, and they are not with their parents or legal guardian, the law states "Whoever, being under twenty-one years of age and not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, knowingly possesses, transports or carries on his person any alcohol or alcoholic beverages.."

Q. Does the same apply for drugs as it does for alcohol?

A. Yes.  If there is drugs in the car, all occupants are subject to being arrested.

Second " No person holding a junior operator's license shall operate a motor vehicle between the hours of 12:30 a.m. and   5:00 a.m. unless  accompanied by a parent or legal guardian"    A junior operator operating a motor vehicle during these hours is considered unlicensed and is subject to arrest.

Winter Parking Ban

Each December 1st Georgetown’s winter parking ban takes effect.  The ban continues until the following April 1st .

During the ban, no parking is allowed on any street between the hours of 1 AM and 6 AM.

Additionally no parking is allowed on any street during a declared snow emergency.
(A snow emergency is always declared when any impending storm is forecast to be 6” or more in depth).

Any vehicle impeding or blocking snow and ice control will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Cars may park overnight in the Park & Ride lot, however please park all cars on the right side (when entering from East Main Street) during snowstorms.  This will allow the plows to clean the entire parking lot without having to maneuver around parked cars.
