There’s a beautiful new painting hanging in the hallway at the Georgetown Police Station. It’s a gift of thanks from Georgetown artist Chuck Margeson, who returned home from a trip in December to discover his house had been ransacked and robbed. Worse still, the family’s pet cat was missing. It was later found frozen to death in the snow outside the house.
Distraught, Margeson called the police immediately and received a quick and professional response.
“Derek Jones was here in four minutes flat, and two more cruisers arrived right after that,” said Margeson. “They reassured my wife, Joanne, and me that this area is safe and everything is under control. I can’t thank them enough for their professionalism.”
Margeson invited Officer Jones to visit his studio and pick any painting he liked for the police station. Jones selected a calm landscape featuring a row of pretty rowboats floating in the water.
“The red and blue on the boats reminded me of the colors of the police and fire departments,” said Jones. “The way they were lined up looked as though they were backing each other up.”
Margeson said he picked out the best frame he had to hold the painting.
“The title of the painting is Sunday in Westport,” said Margeson. “It’s a scene in Ireland. The original is hanging in the Town Offices of Westport in County Mayo, Ireland.”
“Chuck is a wonderful artist,” said Police Chief James Mulligan. “He’s a wonderful man. This is a very calming painting.”
“This is the most professional police department I’ve ever dealt with,” said Margeson.
