Georgetown Firefighters Busy on Labor Day
It might have been the Labor Holiday but Georgetown firefighters were kept busy this day.  Earlier in the afternoon Engine 5 and Car 1 were dispatched to a report from the State Fire Tower of unauthorized burning on Baldpate Road.  On scene firefighters found a small pile of leaves and brush being burned by the homeowner.  This fire was quickly extinguished by the crew from Engine 5.  Then a little after 3 pm firefighters were dispatched to a reported car on fire in a driveway.  Responding to this fire were Car 1, Engine 4, Engine 5 and A-1 from Byfield FD.  Georgetown PD arrived first at the home on 194 Andover Street and reported the car was fully involved next to the house and requested FD units to "step it up".  Engine 5 under the command of Captain Brian Gosse (C-5) arrived and established command.  Car 1 (Chief Beardsley) arrived shortly after this and C-5 transferred command to C-1.  Engine 4 took the hydrant before the house and was ready to establish a water supply should it be needed.  Firefighters stretched a 1 3/4" line to handle the fire.  The fire was kept confined to the vintage 1977 MGB car but
unfortunately it was a total loss.  The garage suffered only slight damage to a PVC pipe on the outside of the house and some smoke staining to the garage door.  There was no other extension into the building.  Firefighters
remained on scene until 4:00 pm.
