Fast Moving Brush Fire Destroys Three Cars
90+ degree temperatures put firefighters to the test!  On Tuesday afternoon April 28, 2009, Georgetown firefighters were assisted by firefighters from Byfield, Newbury and the State DCR at the scene of a fast moving brush fire on 12 Parish Road.  As Fire Chief Al Beardsley approached the scene from a mile away he could see heavy black plume of smoke in the distance.  Georgetown Fire Lt Tom Denman, who lives in the area, was first to arrive and reported a large fast moving brush fire that had already consumed two cars on the property.  Fire eventually burned three cars but was halted by fire crews just as it was reachingfour structures, three of which the fire burned right up to edge of the buildings.  The fire was brought under control in 30 minutes but crews remained on scene for almost 2 more hours mopping up hot spots.  The owner of the house reported having a burn pile the previous day and figured this was a rekindle.  The homeowner received minor burns on the hands while one firefighter was treated for heat and smoke.  Neither was transported to the hospital.  Firefighters from Groveland and Boxford stood-by the empty Georgetown Central Station during the fire.
