In the early afternoon of Father’s Day the ambulance duty crew was alerted to a medical aid for a “child hit by a motor vehicle” incident. Due to the potential severity of the incident Car 3 put an additional EMT on Ambulance 11 (A-11). On scene Car 3 was advised by witnesses a child in a wagon was coming down a hill and crashed into the parked vehicle. The child struck his head and slid under the vehicle. Witnesses removed the child prior to the arrival of A-11. Due to the potential severity of the injury,
Car 3 requested Medflight and an ALS ambulance from AMR. Engine 1 and Car 1 responded to the Georgetown Middle High School to set up the Landing Zone. The child was stabilized at the scene by Georgetown EMT’s and transported by A-11 to the Landing Zone for transport to a Boston-area trauma hospital. The coordinated effort between Georgetown FD EMT’s, AMR paramedics, and Boston Medflight crews was remarkable. Through on-going training all personnel worked seamlessly in responding, stabilizing, transporting and flying out the patient.
