Georgetown Firefighters Respond to Single Car Accident on Interstate 95
Monday May 11th at 5:40 am Georgetown firefighters were dispatched to Route 95 northbound for a reported
rollover with ejection.  While responding crews were alerted the vehicle was also on fire.  Car 2 Deputy Rusty Ricker, on Engine 5, immediately requested Med-Flight to the scene and reported heavy smoke in the area
as he the crossed over the Rte 95 overpass.  At the same time the Byfield Fire Department was also alerted to the same call.  Georgetown firefighters found the scene was just over the town line and in Byfield so crews operated under the direction of Chief Pearson of Byfield.  While Byfield firefighters worked on the car fire Georgetown Engine 5
and Rescue 1 performed what's called a "blocking maneuver" on the northbound lanes to protect crews performing patient care and extinguishment of the car fire.  Georgetown Engine 4 blocked the high-speed breakdown lane southbound to protect Byfield Engine 1 during extinguishment of the fire.  A Boston Medflight helicopter was landed at the scene while State Police units stopped early-morning rush hour traffic both north and southbound for 15 minutes.  Crews remained on scene for almost an hour assisting the Byfield firefighters.  The sole occupant of the car was flown to a Boston-area hospital.
