Open Burning Information
Open Burning Season begins on January 15, and continues thru May 1. Open Burning is regulated by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, and thus requires a permit from the Fire Department.
In order to obtain a permit, you must pick up an open burning packet at the Georgetown Fire Department Headquarters 47 Central Street between the hours of 9am and 12pm 7 days a week beginning on Monday January 12th. The application is due with a $10 fee. Cash is not accepted. Checks or money orders should be made out to the Town of Georgetown.
Each day you wish to burn after filling out the application, you must call the Fire Department between the hours of 9:30am and Noon to make sure the Chief of the Fire Department is allowing burning for the day. Weather and other Environmental conditions will determine if burning is allowed. You will be asked for your permit number when you call.
A complete list of burning regulations is available with the open burning application as well as online here: Burning Regulations
