Become a Georgetown Firefighter
The Georgetown Fire Dept (GTFD) invites men and women 18 years or older who want to experience the excitement of responding to emergency calls while also serving their community as firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to contact them about this opportunity.
The GTFD is a combination paid and on-call fire department, and it has an extremely diverse membership that includes people of all ages, cultural backgrounds and professions ranging from bankers to engineers, government employees to school teachers. The department is led by a part-time career chief, and the station is staffed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. by per-diem staff drawn from the on-call ranks.
Applicants need no prior experience or training to join the Georgetown Fire Department, but they do need to be residents of Georgetown. Members receive free professional training through the Mass Fire Academy as well as an aggressive and progressive in-house training program. They also have opportunities to receive specialized training in such areas as EMT certification, rope rescue, confined space rescue and more.
For information on becoming a Georgetown firefighter, call 978-352-5757 or e-mail Deputy Fire Chief Rusty Ricker, rricker@georgetownma.gov. For information about the GTFD, swing by the Central Station, located at 47 Central St.
