Health and Wellness Programs and Activities

Blood Pressure Clinic:
A visiting nurse is available to check blood pressure, blood glucose levels and discuss other medical concerns with elders on the first Wednesday of each month 10 -11 a.m. at the Georgetown Council on Aging meal site, located at the First Congregational Church on Andover Street.
Wellness Education Programs:
Each month, the Georgetown Council on Aging hosts a variety of wellness and health education programs. Programs are generally held at the Georgetown Council on Aging meal site, located at the First Congregational Church on Andover Street. Please refer to the monthly newsletter or the senior calendar for program topics, dates and times.
Yoga:
Weekly classes that involve gentle stretching with breathing techniques designed to improve balance, mobility and strength. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a floor mat. Classes are held each Monday, 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday, 9 a.m. at the Trestle Way Community Room. A $3 donation is suggested. Newcomers are welcome to attend.
Strength Training:
Weekly classes designed to increase strength, improve conditioning and mobility. Classes are held each Tuesday, 12:30 a.m. and Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Trestle Way Community Room. A $3 donation is suggested. Newcomers are welcome to attend.
Walking Program:
In partnership with the Georgetown School Department, an indoor walking program is underway during the school year on Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30 – 6 p.m. at the Penn Brook School on Elm Street. At their own pace, participants are able to walk a loop within the school. Walkers are asked to sign-in upon arrival and sign out as they leave the school.
Hot Lunch Program:
Providing a nutritious lunch with important socialization, lunch is served Monday through Wednesday 11:15 a.m. at the Georgetown Council on Aging meal site, located at the First Congregational Church on Andover Street. Reservations are needed three days in advance. Suggested donation is $2.
Men’s Breakfast:
Men’s breakfast held monthly on the first Thursday, 9:30 a.m. at the Trestle Way Community Room. Enjoy a nutritious hot breakfast with socialization and educational speakers. Reservations are needed one week in advance.
Medical transportation: Through the NEET program, volunteer drivers are available to provide elders with transportation to medical appointments. A donation of 43 cents per mile is suggested. Arrangements are necessary three business days in advance.
Grocery shop: The COA van is available Tuesdays for weekly grocery shopping trips. Reservations are necessary two days in advance. A donation of $2 is suggested.
